Our Approach:
- Interview occupants of south facing rooms
- ask about temperatures in rooms-too hot?/because of sun?/stuffy?
- ask about shading device effectiveness
- ask about use of blinds
- create a survey and give it to all the south facing rooms
- all of the above for different seasons
- Observe/photograph southern facades at different times during the day to document the effectiveness of the shading devices
- times for photograph documentation: 8:00 am/ 12:00 pm/ 3:00 pm/ 6:00 pm
- Use SketchUp models of southern façade at different dates/times during the year to collect information
- take collected information and compare it to the information calculated from excel shading program.
- Calculate BTU's of thermal gain through windows to determine the effect of the unshaded sun on the interior of the dorm rooms. (Use Solar Gain Factor table from MEEB)
